In the macromolecule lab, I learned about the different presences in the four main macromolecules. By performing five different tests, Benedict's test, Iodine test, Beirut's test, Sudan test and Diphenylamine test.

In the Nucleic Acid lab, I learned about that DNA is present in all cells of living organisms, even onions. As well as it can be extracted and observed by simple laboratory techniques.

In the Microscope lab I learned how to properly use a compound microscope and observe different types of cells. We looked at bacteria, human, cheek cells, onion cells, and Elodea plant cells to see how they compare to each other.

In the Cell Membrane and Trasport lab,
I learned cells need to take in materials like oxygen and nutrients and get rid of waste to stay alive. They move substances through the cell membrane by simple diffusion, osmosis, and facilitated diffusion without using energy. Active transport is different because it uses energy, usually ATP, to move substances from a low concentration to a high concentration.

In the Enzymatic Reations lab, I learnedEnzymes are proteins that help speed up chemical reactions in living things. Different conditions, such as temperature and pH, can affect how well they work. In this lab, we used peroxidase from potatoes to study enzyme activity. We observed color changes and measured absorbance to see how the enzyme reacted under different conditions.

In this lab, we learned about cellular respiration and photosynthesis and how they work. We tested different sugars with yeast to see which ones produced carbon dioxide. We also used a digital simulation to observe how oxygen and carbon dioxide levels changed when the lights were on and off. We noticed that oxygen increased in the light, while carbon dioxide increased in the dark. Overall, this lab helped me understand how plants and other living things use energy and why both processes are important.

This lab helped me understand how cells divide through mitosis and meiosis. We used a microscope to observe onion and whitefish cells and identify the different stages of mitosis. We also learned how meiosis helps produce sperm and egg cells. Overall, I got a better understanding of how cells grow, divide, and create new cells.
